Mandatory Professional Competence Requirements Introduced
May 2010
On 1st May 2010 the remaining provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 came into force.  These provisions relate to the maintenance of professional competence or ongoing training/education of registered medical practitioners. Specifically, by 1st May 2011 the Medical Council is required to develop, establish and operate at least one scheme of professional competence for all registered medical practitioners.  Registered practitioners will have to complete 50 hours of continuing professional development and clinical audits per year or 250 hours over a five year period.  Clearly this puts a significant onus on clinicians to meet their CPD requirements in addition to busy working schedules in public and private practice.

We in Beauchamps have been working with clinical practitioners for more than 30 years in the areas of claims management and the avoidance and defence of claims. We therefore feel that we have an insight in relation to these aspects of practice.  We would be happy to assist you in meeting your CPD requirements by organising study sessions, group question and answer sessions or more traditional on-site training programmes.
