The Technology & Intellectual Property Unit hosted a seminar on Wednesday 10th September 2008 at its office entitled “Show me the Money! The Importance of Intellectual Property for Businesses”. 

    

The speakers were Maureen Daly, Partner and Head of Technology & Intellectual Property at Beauchamps Solicitors and Dr Robert Perryman, Co-founder and CEO of AltaScience. As intellectual property are important intangible assets which foster economic growth and attract investment that create jobs, Maureen examined what intellectual property rights are, how they can be protected and exploited and why companies should bother with intellectual property rights.  She also provided practical tips for companies. 

   

Dr Perryman spoke about the importance of intellectual property rights to AltaScience and what steps it takes to protect these rights.  Having worked in the past with Irish BioVentures as well as Merrion Stockbrokers, Dr Perryman also addressed the investors’ viewpoint on intellectual property rights.  A lively Q&A session followed the speakers’ presentations.
