About Gerry

Gerry is a partner in our commercial real estate team. Gerry practices in all aspects of commercial property and restructuring.

In particular, he advises on the acquisition, structuring and disposal of all commercial, retail, industrial and residential property, together with associated financing, insolvencies and work-out arrangements. Gerry acts for a wide range of institutions and insolvency practitioners in connection with the property / security aspects of their due diligence, financing, enforcement, work-outs, asset disposals and re-structuring.

Gerry's clients include a range of developers, lenders, insolvency practitioners, sellers, tenants, investors, retailers, charities, sporting bodies and statutory authorities. In addition Gerry advises on the liquor licensing and events licensing requirements of all our entertainment and retail clients, and lenders and insolvency practitioners who require advice, court action or project management in respect of their interests in existing or newly developed licensed premises.

Gerry’s current areas of focus are acting for a number of large entities in the site assembly and onward development of new large mixed schemes, and also transacting some of the most high-profile hotel asset sales and loan portfolio sales recently concluded in Ireland.

  • Hotel transactions – recently completed some of the most high profile hotel transactions, on both the sell and buy sides, including Adare Manor Hotel (for Adare Manor LP), Temple Bar Hotel (for Sabden Limited), and the Osprey Hotel, Naas (Grant Thornton Receivers)
  • Cairn Homes plc on its recent acquisition of a high profile city centre site requiring extensive interface arrangements with the adjoining owner, and for Cairn’s acquisition of the Project Clear portfolio of development sites and in effecting the loan-to-own strategy for the various assets
  • Colony Northstar Inc on the property aspects of the financing and taking of security over a range of prominent Irish development and investment assets

  • Haytonvale on all aspects of the acquisition, development and ongoing work for a high profile Dublin Docklands brownfield mixed site, to include a rent-sharing acquisition arrangement with a freeholder, and negotiating agreement for leases and occupational leases for various office HQs including Telefonica / Three

  • NAMA and NAMA-appointed Receivers on the full range of due diligence, sales, lettings, remediation, enforcement options, acquisitions and re-structurings and, in addition, Gerry has played a significant role in various prominent NAMA loan sales recently concluded

  • Distressed assets – acts for a wide range of Receivers appointed by NAMA and other institutions including Danske Bank A/S, Ulster Bank, Bank of Ireland and other loan owners over a range of retail, commercial, residential and hotel assets so as to provide ongoing advices and to facilitate restructurings, sales and lettings

  • Leinster Rugby and Barnardos – Property solicitor to these well-known Irish entities

  • Licensing trade - advises various retailers, licensees, hotel operators, lenders and insolvency practitioners on their positions in respect of existing and distressed licensed properties; to include undertaking various Court applications to safeguard the relevant licence and trade, and project manage numerous property transactions requiring a licensing approval, including hotels, nightclubs and new supermarkets
