Planning & Environmental Solicitor at Senior Associate

We are currently seeking to recruit a Planning & Environmental Solicitor at Senior Associate level to join our highly regarded market leading Projects, Infrastructure & Energy (PIE) team. The team has a diverse range of clients across all sectors. We are looking for someone to assist with a portfolio of client transactions and projects, working with our larger PIE team, and reporting to the partners within the PIE Group.

The position will involve a broad range of responsibilities including:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising clients on consenting strategies and processes, including leading pre-application reviews of planning applications, EIARs and NISs;
  • Leading the conduct of Judicial Review and Injunction proceedings in the planning and environment list of the High Court, representing decision maker Respondents and developer Notice Parties;
  • Defending enforcement actions;
  • Drafting legal advice notes and opinions;
  • Leading the planning and environmental due diligence workstream for M&A and financing transactions;
  • Preparing legal briefings for clients on key developments in planning and environmental law; 
  • Representing the firm at relevant sectoral and industry groups and events;
  • Assisting with the professional development of trainees and more junior solicitors in the planning and environment team.

Required Experience:

  • Conducting legal reviews of planning applications, EIARs and NISs, preferrable with experience on renewable energy projects;
  • Advising clients on planning and environmental licensing application processes and statutory procedures;
  • Acting in judicial reviews of planning and environmental decisions and injunction proceedings in the planning and environment list of the High Court;
  • Defending enforcement actions;
  • Drafting formal legal advice and opinions for clients;
  • Due diligence and inputting into the environmental and planning aspects of transactional documents.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be 4+ years qualified, specialising in planning and environmental law.

He or she should be ambitious, highly motivated with strong organisational and interpersonal skills, and an excellent work ethic.

  • Calm and measured in their approach to problem solving
