Our Policy Overview

Ireland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 July to 31 December 2026, placing Ireland at the centre of EU decision-making during a period of significant legislative and policy activity. For Irish business, the Presidency is more than an institutional milestone: it is a six-month window in which EU files relevant to competitiveness, investment, regulation, security and social policy may move at pace.

Ireland’s policy programme is built around three interlocking pillars: competitiveness, values and security, under the guiding principle “Strength with unity”. The programme places particular emphasis on legislative delivery, with the One Europe, One Market Roadmap acting as a central mechanism for advancing regulatory simplification, deeper Single Market integration and the mobilisation of investment.

For businesses operating in or through Ireland, the files most likely to be of practical significance span digital regulation, energy and infrastructure, financial services, life sciences, agri-food, trade and the broader Single Market. The Presidency is expected to provide Ireland with an important role in shaping the sequencing, negotiation and delivery of EU measures in areas where Irish businesses are already deeply engaged.

Beauchamps will monitor the development of Ireland’s Presidency programme and its implications for clients across regulated, transactional and sector-specific mandates. Our focus will be on helping clients understand which EU files are likely to progress, what those developments may mean in practice, and how best to prepare for implementation, engagement and strategic decision-making.
